Intended Parents FAQ related to Surrogacy

The intended parent or parents, sometimes called the social parents, may arrange a surrogate pregnancy because of female infertility, other medical issues which make pregnancy or delivery impossible, risky or otherwise undesirable, or because the intended parent or parents are male. Intended parents are in search of surrogate mothers to help them become parents. Intended parents find out surrogates either through surrogacy clinic or surrogacy agencies or through online websites or lastly through family and friends. Intended parents from all over the world searches for surrogate mother profiles in their local area or in foreign countries for the best match.

Most people have never been an intended parent before, so naturally number of questions are going to arise before selecting gestational surrogacy program and surrogate mother. Selection of surrogate mother can be done using race, age, income, expected compensation, height, weight, eye color, and hair color among over a dozen different criteria. Following are the questions that may hinder many intended parents in their selection process.

What is Gestational Surrogacy?

Using the process of IVF (in-vitro fertilization) eggs are retrieved from the intended mother or egg donor's ovaries and fertilized with the sperm of the intended father or sperm donor. Embryos are then transferred to the gestational surrogate mother's uterus where she will carry the fetus to term and deliver a baby for the intended parents. Why choose gestational surrogacy? In the past adoption was the only option for infertility. Now surrogacy is the alternative to adoption to achieve parenthood. Many couples choose gestational surrogacy so that they can have a baby that is genetically related to one or both of them.
